On Wearing Number 3

I've been meaning to update forever, but I discovered something when I had Baby L : Life can quickly descend into chaos when you have two young children in the house! But I learned something about babywearing, too when L came along. My babywearing experience was totally different with L than it was with E and not just because I knew what I was doing and had about 80 baby carriers in the house. L had preferences when it came to carriers! E just wanted to be held constantly and I only had one carrier until he was about 5 months old and then he took to new carriers without any protest. So, this was all I knew: little babies love to be held all the time in any carrier.

Well, I was wrong about that! L didn't need to be held constantly (though, he did like it and I did wear him most of the time anyway!). And he much preferred ring slings over all other carriers! He hated mei tais when he was little and wasn't a huge fan of wraps. So, I mostly wore him in various ring slings until about 4 months old. (The fact that he was born in June in the south had something to do with this, too!) Then we began to branch out a bit more. He would protest new types of carriers and new positions at first but would eventually get over it. I began putting him on my back at 3 - 4 months, which he really hated, but I kept at it because it was really necessary since I also have E to take care of and he's a handful! L eventually got used to back carries and even became very attached to being worn that way. I would often need to put him on my back to calm him when he was upset.
